All olive-plantation were destroyed in April 1929 by a frost; before that date olive oil was produced in Friuli. This kind of growing was used by Romans too. In 1787 Marco Sebastiano Gianpiccoli used to write about olive-plantation in Friuli and
about their product which was called Vuegli. In 1850 olive-plantation on the Collio produced a hundred kilograms of olive oil. The biggest development of the olive oil production in Friuli was during the reign of Mary Teresa of
Asburgo who provided incentives for its growing in the hills. From our own olive-plantation in Adorgnano (UD) Giovanni Dri produces two different kinds of olive oil since 2001. He calls them “Uèli” which means oil in his own dialect
